I was out and about when I decided to shoot images of the falls in a nearby town. While shooting images I took my eye off of the camera and looked up. I noticed this blue heron below the falls and standing in the only dry spot. I shot numerous images at various positions. I then decided to turn this image into a black and white.

Location
I took this shot at a horseshoe falls in Belmont, New York.Time
I was shooting various shots or the falls and the surroundings and when I looked up I saw this blue heron standing below the falls. I carefully walked toward it with my tripod and camera in hand not to disturb it. I then stood there and took several images at different angles. This image was taken during the mid afternoon.Lighting
The natural lighting was perfect when I took this shot. It was partial sun and clouds and the sun wasn't too high and bright allowing for the perfect light. This image is one of my favorite nature shots.Equipment
Canon T3i Rebel with a 55-275 lens and a tripod.Inspiration
I am always inspired with Mother Nature and when I saw the blue heron standing on the only dry spot below the falls I just had to get the shot. This bird is also spooked easily and hard to capture being so close. The blue heron is also special to the Indians in my area.Editing
With this image I conducted a bit of post processing by using my tone levels once I turned it from color to black and white to ensure I had the proper whites, blacks, and grays. In my camera bag
I carry my Canon T3i Rebel and Canon T5 with me and several lenses (18-55mm, 55-275mm, 75-300mm, HD Fisheye with a 58-46mm Macro, PHD Optics 2xAF lens, Canon EF lens 50mm 1:1.8 STM and 85mm 1:1.8 Vivitar Series 1 lens for portraiture.) I also carry my Vivitar VIV-DR-7000 LED Macro Ring Flash and accessories, as well as my tripod. I always what to be prepared for that perfect image.Feedback
Whenever I go out for a shoot I always start out in the early morning prior to sunrise and won't finish until after the sun sets. There are endless chances to capture Mother Nature during the Golden Hours and the lighting is so breathtaking. Always be patient to capture that perfect shot because Mother Nature tends to throw in a curveball every once in a while. Always adjust to the lighting throughout the day by using different ultra violet lenses and cones to reduce any unwanted glares or sunspots.
