This photo was taken of "suzy" the tiger. She lived on Vancouver island with a private owner. Shortly after i took this picture Suzy was taken away and sent to a animal sanctuary in the US.Time
It was taken on a bight, sunny summer, afternoon. I remember there being not a cloud in the sky.Lighting
Pretty typical outdoor lighting. She was in a huge chain link encloser so it was tricky to get a close up shot while staying far enough away that she couldn't get me. Her owner fed her as I was there so it was easier to get a few good shots while she stayed in one spot eating. Absolutely breathtaking beauty!Equipment
I believe I used my Nikon D70s for this shot. I had a 18-120mm lens, so I was pretty close to her.Inspiration
I had heard about Suzy while reading a paper on how there was a legal battle to have her sent to the sanctuary in the US. The owner did not want to give her up but the BC government changed the laws so exotic animals like Suzy where not allowed to be privately owned unless proper paper work and habitat were up to highest standard. The owner could not afford it and reluctantly agreed to send her away. I remember taking with the man and him being heartbroken as he had Suzy from 3 months old.Editing
Nope, other then the basic edits nothing was done. This photo is 100% true!In my camera bag
I carry my main camera a Nikon D2X and an extra D2X body ( just in case ). I have a 18-120mm lens, 18-200mm, a 35mm, 50mm, and a camera mounted flash in my bag always.Feedback
Patience!!!! You have to have patience. I remember watching Suzy for about 2 hours, and I came out with the most AMAZING photos.
