Always watch how the sun lights up your scene, from morning till evening, this corn field would look very harsh when the sun is high in the afternoon in a photograph, just keep an eye on how everything is lit. I squint my eyes to get an idea of how a photo will look in camera, you can see the shadows more when you do this, this was a tip I was given years ago and always works for me
