I took this picture on Santa Monica Pier in Los Angeles. The first time I ever wake up to take pictures at sunrise.Time
It was the 14th of January if I remember correctly and I had to wake up at 5am so I could drive all the way to Santa Monica. It was a weekday so I managed to avoid a lot of traffic on my way there but I didn't expect to get the whole pier for myself. I was the only photographer present. Being Santa Monica Pier I always imagined that there would be a few more people taking pictures.Lighting
I was lucky enough to get some clouds early on as the sun started to rise since the sky is usually clear early in the morning here in Los Angeles but other than that it's all natural lighting.Equipment
This was shot on a Nikon D750 with a 35mm f1.8 prime lens. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
I was on the Pier taking pictures on this particular spot when I noticed this guy that appeared from nowhere and that's when I saw the opportunity. I started to frame as I waited for him to get a bit further down and then I took the one picture.Editing
I uploaded this picture to the Unedited Contest, this is the jpeg export of the original RAW file without any post-processing.In my camera bag
I usually carry my Nikon D750 and my go to lens is the 50mm f1.8 . I also carry my 35mm and 85mm lens just in case. On special occasions, I go with my Nikon FM with also a 50mm f1.8 lens.Feedback
Just plan accordingly with your location and wake up early so you can arrive and do some scouting before the sunrise begins. Keep on shooting no matter what.
