Location
I took this picture during my trip in Costa Rica. We were driving around lake Arenal, in the north of the country, and were very happy to see the majestic volcano only partly shrouded by clouds.Time
We were driving from Monteverde to La Fortuna, on a 4x4 dirt road, in the early afternoon, the sky was luckily partly clouded.Lighting
Since I had recently developed an interest in daytime long exposures, I thought it was the perfect spot to hone my skills in this type of photography...Equipment
This was shot with my Sony A7 fitted with a 24-240 lens. Of course I used a tripod, the BeFree travel tripod at Manfrotto. As for all long exposures, I had several ND filters (ND 1000 for this shot, as long as I remember), and a wireless remote control, that allows me to adjust exposure time and shutter release. Camera settings were : iso 100 f/13 188s 27mmInspiration
I thought that the movement of the clouds, spread out by the effect of the long exposure, could enhance the perfect cone shaped volcano. Of course it took several attempts and exposure times (involving the use of different ND filters) before I obtained the desired effect.Editing
This is a one shot photograph. I quickly realize that a black and white treatment would enhance this pristine landscape. I did the usual basic adjustments in Lightroom, black and whites, contrast, and so on.In my camera bag
As I travel a lot, and always carry my equipment with me, I favor light cameras and lenses , although the latter is seldom possible. I often use my Sony A7 with a Sony FE 24-240mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS, a versatile lens, allowing me to cover an extensive variety of shooting situations, without having to change lenses, which can prove tricky in some weather conditions. When I want to be even lighter, I use my Sony alpha 6000. In short, I prefer lightness and compactness !Feedback
Just be patient, keep on trying and experimenting, change view points... The main point is enjoying what you are doing.
