very good idea, although I think that shadows are a little bit too dark, you loose the details inside...

Location
I took it near my resident hall in UCSD, beside the wall and stairs where people smoke secretly. I found the place extremely quiet and especially suitable for me to reflect upon my inner self at night.Time
It was at around 2 A.M, 4/14/2016, when I just finished doing something great and brave. Originally, this self portrait was made for me to memorize the day.Lighting
It was all street light from the top left corner. I tried to use it to create a deep harsh shadow in order to reveal the character's other self that is dark, depressed, lonely, and broken.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon 7D, a 17-40mm Canon lens, a remote, and a tripod I bought on Amazon.Inspiration
Originally, I took it in order to memorize what I just did and feel that day. I felt exhausted and kind of lost in life, but also thought that I had just become a new person. At first, the idea of adding the cracks on the wall did not come across my mind. But weeks later, when I looked at it again, I knew that the picture as is was not enough. During those weeks I also studied other photographers' works, and turned into a fan of Brooke Shaden. I think her images did inspire me a lot too.Editing
Yes definitely! The most obvious change is adding the cracks on the wall, which I did with photoshop brushes plus other subtle changes. Other than that, I just did some minor modifications in Camera Raw.In my camera bag
I used to own a Canon 7D and 17-40mm lens ?equipment I used to create "Broken Inside"?, but now I have switched to Sony A7M2 and the 55mm F1.8 has become my new favorite. I still use my 17-40mm, but now with an adapter. If I plan to take some self portraits, I'll also bring my remote and tripod. I'm only 5' so I usually don't carry a lot.Feedback
Do not try to create something on purpose. Rather, think about expressing something from the depth of your heart. Just like in this picture, I was trying to capture my emotions, not the scene itself. A great image should always has something deep and powerful within itself to express. Also, I rarely plan on taking any self portraits. I take them whenever and wherever I feel right. I believe this makes the emotions in my pictures more powerful and authentic.
