Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at a place called Gardner Villiage. It is a little shopping center filled with boutique shops. This piano was sitting outside one of the shops.

Time

It was in the morning, probably around noonish. We had a composition assignment due for a photography class and I was shooting anything that was interesting.

Lighting

This was shot with daylight. It was in the shade of an of a porch awning. No special tricks. Just aligned the frame in an interesting way and snapped the shot.

Equipment

I only used my camera and my stock 22-70 lens.

Inspiration

I took this picture because it reminded me of my mother who used to be a classical pianist.

Editing

Yes I did. I changed it to high contrast black and white and then put the sliders to extreme opposites for my highlights/shadows and my white/black. I was just playing around, but I loved the effect.

In my camera bag

Normally it's my Sony A7 II, my stock lens (22-70) and my 'Nifty-fifty'. I don't feel like I need much more to capture the things I want.

Feedback

Follow your gut. Get the angle that you want and just take the picture. Look at it on camera and decide if you like the look. You can even change to shooting in black and white to get a better idea, but you'll never know if you don't try.
