Location
I took this photo at a beach in Northport, New York which is located on Long Island (a suburb of New York City).Time
This is one of my favorite photographs as it was taken at sunset a few days after a New York snow storm. I was getting antsy and needed to go take a nice sunset photo even thought the winter was long and seemed to never end in NY. I arrived and was so happy to see that the beach was low tide, so the foreground was just jumping out at me. Wearing my winter snow pants and boots, I placed myself down in a spot where the sand created amazing leading lines right towards the sunset, houses and Northport Stacks.Lighting
This was an amazing time to shoot because the light became perfect for about 5 minutes. The streaky clouds turned red and reflected beautifully agains the sand.Equipment
I used a nikon d750, nikon 16-35, a 10 stop nd filter and a grad nd filter and a low lying tripod.Inspiration
I had always wanted to take a long exposure with an amazing foreground at the beach.Editing
I post process in both Lightroom and photoshop and also used Nik plug ins.In my camera bag
I always have my 16-35, 24-70 and 70-200, a low tripod, a regular tripod and my nd filters.Feedback
I would say to just venture out to locations that you know the sun will set and then think about getting low. Place your camera lower than you think and you will be amazed at what you can capture. Also look for leading lines that will help bring your viewers eye where you want it to be.
