Location
I took this image in my backyard at my parents house in Polokwane South Africa. I'm a student pilot based in Johannesburg(about 3 hours drive) i go visit every other weekend.Time
This was taken just before sunset. I got bored and decided to take my camera and walk around the yard to see if i cant stumble onto some inspiration.Lighting
I didn't have a set idea in my head about what I wanted to photograph. I just started wondering around my back yard seeing what I could see. When i saw the little bug on that plant i only had to wait a few minutes for the light to fall on the plant and the rest of the background to fall into shadow.Equipment
I used a canon 700D with the kit 300 mm lens. This was 1 of the first photos i took so i only had the kit lenses.Inspiration
I was just wondering around my back yard and saw this bug (witch if you look closely is missing a hind leg) jumping around the plants and trying to get around. I was fascinated by it and started following it around taking pics as it went on it's way.Editing
Just some basic retouching in Lightroom. The light was actually really good to start with the main subject was nicely lit and i only had to wait a few minutes for the background to fall in shadow creating the cool contrast. In my camera bag
In my bag is my Cannon 700D body with my 300mm zoom, prime 50 and 33 to 75 mm. I also have a small diy reflector i made out of some cardboard and string and a Pringles tube i use as a diy extension tube with my prime 50 for macro photography. Then i have a spare battery and memory card(and i have now added a tripod:)Feedback
I would say that good pics dont always have to take thousands of dollars worth of equipment and hours of planning sometimes just a pair of legs and a imagination is more than enough(actually you probably dont even need legs)
