Behind The Lens
Location
This foto was taken at the pond on the Mohonk property, it's a great place for up close and nature fotosTime
This foto was taken in the afternoon, slightly overcast with tree shade, making for soft lighting.Lighting
Didn't want any harsh or bright lighting. It's a home for frogs, the lighting needs to be quite like the pond.Equipment
This shot used a Sony a7 II with a Sony SEL30M35 E35mm 3.5 macro. This is a very simple great bang for the buck lens. It is an APS-C size, but work fine on a full frame camera. A simple, small, inexpensive way to get into macro fotos.Inspiration
Really wanted a foto of those great eyes. Knowing it would take some time. It was worth the wait to get close enough to have the frogs very front, too close to the camera to focus.Editing
Once the foto was on the pc, only did cropping, and leveling through the center of the eyes.In my camera bag
I do have a budget for this, so there is not much inventory. When hiking I use a small shoulder bag with a general purpose zoom, 24-240, with a polarizing and uv filters. The other lense is a macro lens, with a uv filter. You never know, when there will be a great closeup with a different angle. Always carry extra battery if you're are going to be out for awhile. Also a compact set of lense filter cleaning supplies, you just don't know when things will get dirty, and don't let that ruin the rest of the day. This includes, a micro fiber cloth, solution and q-tips. There are plenty of how to vids showing lense cleaning.Feedback
This foto took time to enable a closer shot, after sitting with the frog for a few minutes. Putting the camera in front of the frog, from the onset, got the frog used to the camera in front of him. Then taking shots as I moved closer and closer. Reaching a point were the lense is loosing focus with the front of the frog.
