I shot this image during a stroll down the banks of the Mighty Mississippi River in Baton Rouge Louisiana.Time
Around 11am I saw ahead a strange shape. I looked like a sculpture that had been cast into the river and then washed ashore.Lighting
The sky was overcast so it gave a 'flat' look to the lighting. Usually flat like is boring (in my opinion) but during mid-day it keeps images from being harsh. That is why I was willing to comb the banks at late morn.Equipment

As I mentioned, I thought a sculpture had been washed ashore. I almost ran to it. I find many an interesting object on the Mississippi shore line so I make it a habit to take a walk whenever I can. The shape, the sounds, the colors that change with time of day but also the flow of waters washed down from the entire midwest for the river drains the central part of the North American continent. I travel light. I want to be free to play. For river walks or muddy adventure I carry my Sony A300 and kit lens. For Important (!) shooting I carry my Sony A7R Mark 2 with a 24 - 240 native lens and a Sony A7m2 with kit lens as a back up. I always have a tripod but rarely take it out in the field, as I said freedom is more important than equipment. I carry a polarizing filter in a pocket and of course batteriesFeedback
Here is what I suggest if one wants to capture something like this... go outside. Make it a habit to walk and see. Somewhere it is written "The meaning of life lies in the verb - Seeing" Practice seeing not just looking. Here is another 'trick' I have learned somewhere. When seeing a horizon or a tiny macro... start looking from the right side and search to the left. This is opposite of how we read which is left to right. It causes you to See. Wear comfortable shoes and clothes that can get dirty. Be willing to kneel in much. For what you see may not ever be there, in that way, at that time, ever again. Light writing (Photo-Graphy) saves that particular slice of time and makes it shareable and inspirational for all that see your work. Thanks for reading this and get outside everyone! Rick
