Behind The Lens
Location
The Photo was taken in a vacant level of a building near my house. I scouted the location prior to the shoot. Since im a natural light shooter, i figured id benefit from the huge windows of the building.Time
I usually photograph either sunrise or pre-sunset/golden hour. This particular shot was taken early in the morning. I love how soft the lights and the shadows are during these times.Lighting
Lighting is all natural light only. I positioned the model infront of a huge window, its the method i use if i want something similar to a soft box lighting! It gives the model a nice eye catch light and soft light.Equipment
This was shot on a Fujifilm XT1 and 56mm prime lens. Natural light only. Brought a huge tile for the reflection.Inspiration
I got super excited the moment i saw the location. The first thing came to my mind was, "i have to photograph someone here". It was the perfect timing too as one of my friend, Nica, just contacted me for a portrait session. I knew right away where I would want to photograph her.Editing
Post-processing is one of my favorite part of the process.I did minor color correction and white balance adjustment in Camera Raw. Then i did a minor clean-up on the skin using the patch tool. Dodge and burn for contrast, and Color balance and Levels for toning. In my camera bag
I usually bring my XF 56mm 1.2 prime lens with me on a portrait session. A Neutral density filter, since im always shooting on wide open aperture outdoors, and extra batteries.Feedback
Having the right lens matters when shooting portraits, if you love bokeh like me, having a fast aperture lens is a must. When shooting outdoor portraits using natural light, i discovered i get good lighting results when shooting early in the morning, or late in the afternoon. Its when you have the sky acting like a giant soft box, giving soft lights and shadows on your subject.
