Location
I took this photo from Muller Hutt, Mt cook National park, New Zealand. In the background you can see the peak of Mt cook in the sunlight, New Zealands highest peak.
Time
That morning we (my friend Jonathan and I) drove 3 hours from Queenstown to the Mt cook national park to start the trek up to Muller Hutt. The walk takes about 4-5hours and we used every minute of it. By the time we reached Muller Hutt it was late afternoon so we prepped our Sleeping arrangements, had a snack and then set off to have a explore. I was sitting on a ridge hoping to timelapse the sunset when the kea landed in perfect placement for a photoshoot. So 5:56pm according to camera metadata. Immediately before a beautiful autumn sunset.
Lighting
Golden hour. A lot about this photo was just being in the right place at the right time. One thing I can say though was on my left was Mt Sefton. Although beautiful, It did cast quite a bit of shade where the bird landed, which just meant I just had to pull up the shadows in Lightroom after to make the Bird more Prominent in the Photo
Equipment
Because It was a fairly decent uphill walk, and we were packed with sleeping gear the photography equipment I was carrying was very minimal. I had packed just a Panasonic GH4 body with a 2.8 12-35mm lens (was expecting to be taking landscape photos/ video)

Inspiration
Right place, right time. The circumstances that led to this specific photo were too random/ lucky for me to answer 'what inspired this photo' but what i can answer Is what inspired me to climb up there in the first place to be in a position to take this photo. I love travel. And I love photography, but something inside me wanted to explore my own country first, to see the beauty within arms reach, before photographing other countries. This led to our 3 weeks off work, travelling NZ and trying to see as much as we could before having to go back to the office. So thats what led us to Muller hutt. What a better way to experience NZ beauty than to spend the night on a mountain that frames up NZ's highest peak so perfectly.
Editing
Yes! The Kea (bird) was somewhat dark (because of the shadow of the mountain) and soft. All I really did was bring up the shadows, add some sharpening to the Kea and increase the vibrancy of the photo. But nothing fancy just made what i wanted to stand out, standout
In my camera bag
I tend to keep things quite simple. I have a a7rii and generally carry a 24-70mm with me. This tends to cover most impromptu scenarios. Thats my go to but honestly i just grab whatever is nearby. More often than not it's my samsung s7 lol
Feedback
Know your camera! everyone experiences times in life where you are presented with amazing moments. Some are lucky enough to have everything set right to capture that moment, others know their gear well enough to be able to adjust capture that moment. I want to be the latter :)
