I had leftover sparklers from a previous shoot and this couple was up for trying new things, so we made something beautiful happen! I took the bridal party and a few family members to a small pavilion on the property with a finished floor (I didn't want us to be a fire hazard in fall!) I strive to capture fine-art worthy photos at every wedding. To me it's much more about capturing the feel of the day rather than the perfect pose.Editing
Yes! I'm a contrast and saturation junkie, and I do my own color correction by eye. I lightly played with the exposure, but mostly clarity and vignette. I work in both Lightroom and Photoshop.In my camera bag

For set-up I set up my camera on a tripod and then set up the wedding party in this arrangement. It was VERY dark, so I had the bride hold a lighter in front of her face and then I set my focus on her eye, even though we wouldn't be seeing it. I then lit the sparklers and ran out of the shot quickly! The bride and groom shared a kiss while the wedding party cheered! However, I've had a few sparkler photos not work before I figured out my formula for success. To be successful in this business you must be willing to try and fail many times before you get it right! Fail just means First Attempt In Learning, and I've learned a LOT from my photography failures! Once you give up trying your craft becomes stale. Don't let it. This particular image took about 7 shots in quick succession, my bride was getting burned slightly by the sparkler flares, and everyone in the wedding party was a little drunk at this point. Work with what you've got, make the best of any situation, and find the fine-art in the ordinary. It's there, I promise!
