A visit to the Alligator Farm in St. Augustine is always a treat for the avid bird photographer. The rookery is always full of a wide variety of birds perching among the bushes and trees. This blue heron was perching in the perfect spot for an up close portrait with the sun highlighting his wings.

Beautiful shot. I have seen them here in the Las Vegas Valley but haven't ever managed to get such a beautiful shot of one.

I've taken a lot of pics of the Great Blue Heron, but have never gotten that palette of colors, including the purple and the yellow/green. Outstanding.

That is one great shot, perfect light. It is actually a Tri-colored Heron, one of a variety of Heron species found in Florida. Thanks for entering in my Challenge.
