I took this photo in 1928 right before the great depression hit....ok...not true...I can't back that up. It was fall of 2015 in Genola, Utah USA. But the shorts are vintage so it wasn't a complete lie. ;)Time
It was an early October evening.Lighting
It was cloudy and cold, but I think that added to the photo's simplicity and delicious diffused light. I love the way the light wraps around his shoulder. Don't you?Equipment
Nikon D800 with an 80-200 mm lens.Inspiration
The tractor was my initial inspiration because I lived on a farm in upstate New York as a child and have always loved seeing the tractors buzz in and out of the fruit trees. I guess you can say that my memory was my inspiration.Editing
I did remove a blue cast from the skin as well as increase overall contrast. In my camera bag
Whatever gets the job done...but I love my nikon d800 with my 85mm prime. I always carry extra batteries and memory cards. I never leave without my imagination. Making a shot can happen anywhere.Feedback
I tested my depth of field with an adult to get the perfect blur of the background so that our cold little model didn't have to sit there and freeze while I adjusted settings. When working with children I have found that you have about a 15 minute time frame to get your best shots. They cute little attention spans need you to be well prepared, fast, and direct. You also have to know your camera well. Afterall, you want to be as quick as they are so you don't loose a moment!
