My husband often travels to The Netherlands for work. I was excited to find out his next trip would be during tulip season! I was quite lucky to be able to travel with him and get to see Holland’s amazing tulips in spring.Time
It’s hard to say when I took this photo, We got up early to bike through tulip fields, got lost and ended up at the sea! My camera roll was so full of tulips but based on the lighting and what I remember of the day it would have been early afternoon.Lighting
Ahh, light can be a tricky thing in The Netherlands, it’s notoriously always grey and overcast. In fact it was most of the day. Thankfully in the afternoon the sun made one of its rare appearances. It was quite a delight to see all those flowers really pop with a little light. I have Mother Nature to thank for the excellent light on this picture.Equipment
I was on vacation so I was traveling light. Nikon D750, Nikkor Prime 35mm 1.8F, no flash or tripod)Inspiration
I’ve always though anyone can take a picture of beautiful things. Who wouldn’t be inspired to take pictures of these gorgeous flowers. I was drawn to these tulips because of how their color palette. Then I just work to find a way to frame the photo to make it special to me.Editing
I don’t like to mess with editing on nature photos like this. How can I improve on natural beauty! I do a little tweaking to make sure light and color are how I remember it, other then that, this photo is how it was shot.In my camera bag
I love my prime lenses! The 35mm 1.8f is a great small lens it fits anywhere and takes amazing pictures. For macro shots I like the 105mm 2.8f macro lens. For versatility I almost always have my 18-55mm 2.8f zoom. Or my big daddy the 70-200 2.8, zoom, it takes beautiful photos. I recently got a Jobi tripod, it’s little, rugged, and works in pretty much any setting or terrain.Feedback
Take as many photos as you can, try as many angles as you can. Don’t be afraid to look silly for a shot! Sometimes it’s a slight angle or an inch in a direction to get something special. Be patient, so many things can change with time especially light!
