I call this "Mortalidad," or "Mortality," because the model was 69 years old, and looking pensively into the eye sockets of a skull. (She turned 70 the month after her image was shot for this composite.)

The image of her was shot in my studio. The door, window, and stones in the image are actually from a model of a kind of a hobbit hut that I had. I shot it in the studio, as well. Then I carefully blended it with a shot of some redwood trees.

I darkened the trees to make it appear to be night, and lit the windows, using them to bring back the exposure into the areas I wanted visible, to try to create a realistic scene.

I would love to hear what you think of the image. Please click the comment button! And if you think it worthy of peer awards? So much the better!

Fantastic idea and photo. Being 70 years old - I can relate.
