McMahon's Point, Sydney - AustraliaTime
This was taken around 1.30pm on Australia Day just after it sailed under the Sydney Harbour Bridge with the rest of the fleet. This was just one of the historic Tall Ships featured in the Tall Ships sailing display on Sydney Harbour that day.Lighting
The day was quite overcast and we had quite a bit of rain in Sydney, but still had enough light that I only had to slight increase my ISO setting.Equipment
Nikon D7100 with an 18 - 140mm AF-S f 3.5 - 5.6 ED VR lens. No flash or tripod was used.Inspiration
The Tall Ships are always an amazing sight to see out on Sydney Harbour, but is it truly special to see them all sailing to celebrate 'Australia Day'.Editing
The day was was quite overcast and so I experimented with turning some of my shots black and white due to the lack of sun and blue sky. I think the black and white shots helped give the Tall Ships an extra historic 'old world' look. There was minimal cropping and post processing. In my camera bag
I always carry my 18 - 140mm AF-S f 3.5 - 5.6 ED VR lens and often have my 55 -300mm lens as well and take my lens hoods. Depending what I am going to shoot I occasionally take my 35mm prime lens too. I always have my lens cleaning equipment in my bag as I often shoot water landscapes and need to regularly clean the lenses. I often also take my tripod and my shutter release remote when spending long periods of time in the same place and for night time photography.Feedback
Don't be out off if the weather is not clear and sunny for outdoor shoots. I almost didn't go down to the harbour this day due to the dismal weather, but I ended up capturing some amazing shots and some turned out even better than the years it is sunny for Australia Day. Very glad I went.
