This photo was taken in my backyard, where there are endless opportunities for nature photography since there is a small creek running just over my fence. I am a self-taught photographer and still working out the different components of photography.Time
It was mid-day around 12.50 am. It was a good day for photography, the skies were clear and there was a lot of natural sunlight coming through the trees. It was the 24/4/2016 that this photo was taken.Lighting
The frog was at an awkward angle and you could just see it through the bush, first I tried to use the flash but it just made the frogs skin a yellowish colour. After moving some pieces of shrubs that were blocking the sun, I allowed some sun to brighten the frog up a bit without the flash.Equipment
I used a Canon 1200D, with a Tamron AF70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di LD Macro 1:2Inspiration
I was on the hunt to snap an Ornithoptera euphorion, a beautiful butterfly that never seems to stays still. There I was sitting in my normal spot waiting for the butterfly to pass, I was on a rock in the middle of the creek. In the corner of my eye, I saw the rustle in the bushes. First I couldn't see it but then it opened its eyes and I could see past its camouflage, there it was my little frog. I knew I had to share this creature with everyone on view bug.Editing
I did edit this photo in photoshop before I uploaded, I only brightened it up a bit and made it sharper. I also tried to put some detail and colour in the eye as that was a major part of this photo, I did this by bringing up the brightness and saturation in the eye.In my camera bag
I usually carry lens cleaning equipment such as a duster, wipes with lens cleaning solution, my 300mm, and 18-55mm is always connected.Feedback
I would suggest for others chasing a result similar to this to go exploring and don't over look the little things. If I didn't stop to take my time to snap this frog I would never have ended up with this shot. Try to use natural light before using flash, and take multiple shots from all possible angles. Do your research about animals, how they behave and when they are most active. When I saw the frog I knew if I was careful it would not move because it was an amphibian which meant it was soaking up the sun and wouldn't be bothered to move unless I got too close.
