Behind The Lens

Location

Lakota Wolf Preserve

Time

Early morning around 7-8am

Lighting

Teton is the alpha wolf in this enclosure, he loves to be the center of attention, is very smart and interested in everything. The wolves were particularly photogenic and social that morning, maybe because me and the friend I was with do animal rescue and know how to behave around animals I don't know but there was something special in the air that morning.

Equipment

Nikon D3200 not sure which lens, no flash no tripod just point focus and shoot.

Inspiration

Teton himself, it was as if he was posing for me.

Editing

Cropped the photo and possibly cleared it up a little that's all.

In my camera bag

My Nikon D3200 and the two lenses that came with it, just bought a Tamron 300mm lens that adds so much to photos especially wildlife but really everything. I am upgrading my camera soon though, will get another Nikon they have been good to me.

Feedback

Keep your eyes open for opportunity, lighting, etc.. Early morning or late evening are great times for nature photos and the wolves in particular are more active in the morning and evening, try to find out the nature of whatever you are photographing, go at times when they are active and you will have a better chance of getting a good photo, if you know their habits and what they will accept of your intrusion into their world you can get closer and take more relaxed shots of them. One more thing is to enjoy yourself! You are going to have days when you will take lots of photos and they will not come out well and when things just do not cooperate, just enjoy your surroundings and what you are doing at the moment too, it should be fun! I once watched baby Wood ducks jumping out of their nest high in a tree which is a rare sight and could not take photos because my battery had died and I no extra with me that day but I still remember watching it and don't regret that I was there to see it. And you do not need a really expensive camera to get started sometimes sophisticated equipment is so intimidating it keeps you from even using it and what good is that? I have taken some great shots with my cell phone.
