Behind The Lens

Location

I actually took this in my buddy's basement.

Time

This was at about noon. But it doesn't really matter as it was indoors.

Lighting

I used two off camera flashes shooting into umbrellas that were positioned on both sides of the model. I also threw up a black drop cloth behind him.

Equipment

Used my Nikon 7100, I am pretty sure I used my 35mm prime lens and the two off camera flashes into the umbrellas.

Inspiration

This picture was for a fundraising boxing match between two very amateur boxers. We took a couple of pictures of both boxers for some promotional posters.

Editing

Crop and turn to black and white in Lightroom.

In my camera bag

I use the Nikon D7100, and have switched to Sigma 18-250mm and a 10-20mm lenses as my two main lenses. I also occasionally use a 35mm and 50mm prime lens. I have two flashes and sometimes I use my Gary Fong light sphere.

Feedback

It is pretty simple. Two flashes almost exactly beside the model facing into each other. Also underexpose the picture as the flashes will fill in the light where you need it. Have fun!
