Behind The Lens

Location

The ancient architects and the misty mountain tops left me in awe and in tears. Beautiful and breathtaking wonder of the world, Machu Picchu. The vibes are immensely and intensely beautiful there.

Time

A beautiful sunrise greeted me and brought me to about 7am here when I took this shot. The mist cleared as the day progressed but I am grateful to have captured these moments in near full mist as the backdrop with the sun peaking through.

Lighting

This was indeed one of the best times for mood lighting and incredible depth on that mountain top. Mist gently cradled the surrounding mountains and kept the lighting fairly neutral and gave a fairytale like essence to the shots. I wish I knew more about photography back them.

Equipment

I backpacked Peru for 40days and I only brought my phone. I used my LG G4 smartphone on manual mode. No tripod. Although I have upgraded to an intermediate DSLR since then, I still take lots of shots with my phone because it's on me more than my camera.

Inspiration

This was such a surreal experience, not only the magic in this place and the vibe of the people, and the history that is so prominent in every piece of stone intently placed there, building this majestic ancient wonder. Everything has a story and a reason, you can feel it there, without words. This little structure on a tiny peak was so magical and the fog made it so much more surreal. I felt too many emotions I can't explain in the presence of this place, and of course I attempted to capture that moment and keep it forever.

Editing

In post I believe I had done some sharpening and/or double exposure on the image and boosted the saturation and played with some curves on a free app at the time.

In my camera bag

I upgraded to a Canon t7i. I still enjoy using it but I feel held back a little and perhaps I outgrew it. I have 3 lenses, 75-300, 50mm prime and the 18-55. Looking to upgrade to full frame soon. I still shoot with my LG G4 and LG G7 phones for various reasons.

Feedback

Let moments make you feel things, or create the moments you want to capture, let photography be the therapy and the tool to express an emotion that is you.
