Congratulations great capture! I have see this many times but always in the wrong spot or too far to shoot.

Location
This photo was taken along the lower Appomattox River Heritage Trail, in Petersburg, Virginia.Time
This photo was taken about an hour before sundown at 5:48 pm. There were a few osprey flying in an area of the Appomattox River that was back-lit.Lighting
I was worried about the back-lighting, but when the osprey flew out of the water coming towards me and shook off the water, the water droplets made for a nice effect on the photo with the sun lighting them.Equipment
This shot was taken with a Nikon D7000, paired with a Nikon 200-500 5.6 VR lens, shot free hand at 500mm.Inspiration
The osprey were active in an area that I like to take wildlife photos, and I was looking to get a photo of an osprey diving with their talons just piercing the water. While observing I noticed a little shimmy they did a few seconds after leaping back in the air and thought it would make for an interesting photo.Editing
I don't recall needing to do any post-processing on this photo other than adding some exposure to the water droplets. In my camera bag
For bird photography I normally have a Nikon D810, or D700, paired with a Nikkor 200-500mm 5.6 VR lens, and a tripod.Feedback
When taking ospry photos, observe their habits as their actions are predictable. The action occurs pretty fast so be ready for the shot at a high enough ISO/shutter speed to capture the action.
