Location
I took this photo one morning I was having masala tea in Varanasi, India.Time
I could not stop myself from taking photo of this man with the soft morning light and dark background of the tea booth.Lighting
I did not need a flash but the sun simply did an amazing shot highlighting the key feature of the man and his booth.Equipment
This was shot on Canon 5D Mark 3 and 24-70mm lens.Inspiration
It was simply random and definitely the best element in travel photography. I was just having a morning street walk stopping for tea. You just have to keep an eye on every thing and the light obviously the best element of the photo.Editing
I found this photo was perfect without editing as the contrast with the sunlight and dark background. I still use lightroom to sharpen it a bit and also brought up the clarity of the man to make him more rustic and masculine. In my camera bag
Depending where I go, i usually have a Canon 5D Mark 3 with 2 lens when I travel. I will either bring a 16-35mm and a 70-200mm or swapping with a 24-70mm. Recently, i fell in love with my 85mm 1.2 lens so sometimes i will only bring that lens for a local street walk.Feedback
I usually go travel and shoot on whatever subjects that I can encounter. Every minute you get things differently with different motions of people and pwer of lights. Taking a photo like this require no special skill. If there is a direct light from the sun, just find a perfect angle where it only shines on the subject. Also finding the right dark background is key to the element. If you can't encounter direct sunlight, you can also use a flash in manual mode while adjusting your camera in M mode to a very dark setting. You can get something like this.
