Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken from an airplane, a few moments before I landed in Amsterdam.

Time

It was taking near lunchtime. I wake up early and went to the airport to catch the flight from Lisbon to Amsterdam. I don't remember the exact time but it was moments before I landed, so it should be somewhere between 11 and 12 am.

Lighting

Because of the weather, I was lucky to have day light, but not the boring part of it, specially when you are on the window seat of an airplane. The sun rays where blocked by the clouds and that allowed me to take the picture without having too much brighter stuff in it. I think it came out with the right color shades.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D3100 with 18-55mm lens.

Inspiration

I believe the subject was very important. I was caught by those fields, so clean with nothing on it just the brown color from the sand, and in the middle there it was, a green grass field surrounding the house and some warehouses. The other thing that inspired me was the perspective from where I was standing. Being on the airplane I had the privilege to observe this and take a picture as if it was from a drone.

Editing

I did some balancing between black and white and adjust both temperature and contrast. Also tried to clean some spots that resulted from the fact that I took the picture through the airplane window.

In my camera bag

Normal I travel only with my nikon D3100 and my two lens 18-55 mm and 55-200mm. I also bring a tripod and a shutter remote button.

Feedback

My only advice is for you to enjoy as much as you can. If you are an amateur like me, keep having fun and trying new things. As time passes and the experience increases you'll improve you're technic skills for sure. You'll make a lot of mistakes but those will help you improve too.
