This picture was taken in Discovery Cove at Sea World Orlando. It was almost funny to have taken it because this was my first underwater camera and I had originally intended on avoiding the aviary entirely and swimming with the rays all day.Time
I remember waking up that morning buzzing with anticipation because today we would get the opportunity to swim with the dolphins. I couldn't wait to capture them on film and was completely estatic, what I didn't think about was that cameras aren't allowed in the water. When I got there I had been extremely disappointed that I didnt get to take photos of them. Thats when my friends and I went into the aviary at around 11 o'clock. In there we were surrounded by tons of gorgeous birds and I took photos of many of them. August 1st, 2015 was one of the best days of my life.Lighting
When I first saw the peacock in the photo he was below the branch. I couldn't really bend around to get a great photo of him at that point because we were on designated paths. So I walked back and forth along the path until I was pleased with the way the light filtered through the leaves of the trees. I was lucky enough to have the peacock jump up onto the branch in the position I had hoped for shortly afterwards.Equipment
This image was shot before I had really immersed myself in this wonderful world of photography. Until last christmas I never owned a DSLR and was only able to take photos on my mother's camera, my schools camera, and my own Olympus TG-850. That Olympus is a cherished gift from my uncle and it is the camera I used to take this photo.Inspiration
I love peacocks, I think they are gorgeous animals and I get the pleasure of seeing theme everyday because I go to school at the Lincoln Childrens Zoo. I see images of them everday and really wanted my to stand out from the conventional, but still gorgeous, head shots with tail feathers in the background. That is the reason that my photo emphasizes the body of the peacock. I waited a while for him to move over there and when he did I got the picture. I had hoped to take a few more, but he jumped down right after I took the first.Editing
I didnt edit this picture at all after I took it. I didn't have any way to edit images at the time. When I finally did get photoshop, I just decided to let the photo be.In my camera bag
I don't own much equipment, because I have to save for college, but I never leave the house without my Nikon D5200 and my 50mm lense. I also almost always have 300mm lense with me as well. Other than that, I normally use what ever equipment my uncle lends me. Of course when ever I take underwater photos I bring my Olympus TG-850.Feedback
Animals are unpredictable. Every good photographer knows that. The key to getting great photos of any animal is patience. When taking pictures of them its best to take along a tripod, and use a high shutter speed to avoid motion blur and get a clear precise image. If you are going somewhere that does not allow tripods, the bring along your thrifty fify millimeter lense or lower to shoot images with less lighting. Also bring along whatever zoom lense your comfortable with carrying around because sometimes the birds or other exhibits are farther away than you would like.
