Location
This photo was taken at The Woodland Cemetary in Stockholm, Sweden. It's a part of the UNESCO world heritage since it is such a beautiful place.Time
It's sometime in the afternoon. I picked up my daughter early from school with a surprise gift - a white dress - and asked her if she would help me by being a model for me. She did, but not without a reward. And I have to say, she really earned it!Lighting
It was a perfect day to take the photos I wanted. A lot of clouds but bright enough to be able to work without any extra help from any equipment. Since I wanted to take photos that had a darker feeling to it the conditions were just right.Equipment
I used my Nikon D3300 with a Sigma 18-250mm f3.5-6.3 dc macro os hsm lens. The photo shoot was completely handheld because I want to be able to follow the object more freely and fairly quickly be able to take pictures from different angles.Inspiration
After I took the first photos I had in mind I asked my daughter to move around freely without me telling her what to do. She started to walk up this hill called Almhöjden (The Elm height), a very popular place for photographers to take. That gave me an idea to photograph it from a different perspective and style so I told her to keep on walking and I took several photos of her walk. This one was the best I think. The image attracts the viewer to create their own story about the little girl in white dress at the great dark hill.Editing
The original was in color so I created a black and white version since I think the black and white look more clean and better when I want a heavier and darker feel to the picture. It brings out the details and contrasts much more than color photos. I used Lightroom to edit my photo. In my camera bag
I have my cameras, the Nikon D3300 or/and my Olympus E-M5 mark II with the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-50mm F3.5-6.3 EZ lens. In there I also have a cleaning kit, extra battery and an extra sd-card.Feedback
The key words are simple and clean. Is there a story that you want to tell? Can you see/feel it in the photo? Try to find a place that is not full of details that can interfere with the story of the picture. The use of black and white often reinforce the feeling of the picture and strips away unnecessary information. You can always start with colors to see if that is the better option. It's easy to convert it to black and white afterwards. Play with light and exposure to bring out more expression in the picture.
