Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken on the east cliff over looking the Clifton suspension bridge, the bridge spans the river Avon flowing though Bristol and out to the Severn estuary.

Time

The photo was taken around 9 o'clock on a cold clear January morning, during a spur of the moment stop on the way too visit SS. Great Britain.

Lighting

Being January the sun was still on the rise so i chose the east side rather the west, so the far bank of the gorge was light by the sun, time was against me so i could not wait for any better light than i already had.

Equipment

I used a Panasonic G5 and a lumix 14mm prime. ISO160 f/11 1/80sec. hand held.

Inspiration

My inspiration for taken this photo was, firstly my love of this bridge, for years i have passed under it as it towers over the gorge below and i have marvelled at it's engineering beauty, and secondly i had envisioned how it would look in black and white for quite a long time before finally getting the opportunity one morning on a visit to Bristol.

Editing

The photo is one RAW image processed in lightroom , then in Photomatrix.

In my camera bag

I use a Panasonic GH3 and a GH4, my 2 main lenses are Lumix G X VARIO 12-35mm f2.8 andLumix G X VARIO 35-100mm f2.8, this gives me a great range while being light too carry around all day, i also use a Manfrotto BeFree tripod and Lee seven five filter kit with a big and little stopper, plus grad filters.

Feedback

Get there early, somewhere like Clifton suspension bridge gets busy with cars and people and it would be hard too process them out if you wanted too, composition is key, try different positions, even moving a few feet left, right, back or forward can make all the differance. Take the photo you want too see hanging on your wall and have fun doing it.
