Location
The photograph was taken at the so-called „Medienhafen“, a small river port that is widely known for the extravagant architecture along the pier. There are some interesting buildings by Frank Gehry there, too.Time
This was taken in the late afternoon hours in March 2016.Lighting
The sky was cloudy and the light and an almost dusky feel to it. This created not too bright and very soft light which certainly helped in creating this image in that it prevented too harsh reflections.Equipment
Nikon D7100, Nikkor 18-135mm (an old kit lens from 2007 that came with the Nikon D80), tripod and remote control.Inspiration
I have always been interested in abstract photography and have also always wanted to more in the field of architectural photography. This image combines these two interest. As far as the intent goes, this image has been inspired by the increasing untransparency of high-rise economy and politics.Editing
Visually, this image was inspired by the style of Joel Tjintjelaar and I processed it in a similar way using a hard as well as luminosity based masks and soft gradients that I applied step by step to achieve this look.In my camera bag
When shooting, I try to slow down as much as I can because I see value in a thoughtful and deliberate way of shooting. My tripod helps me doing that so I usually have one with me. I also always carry a set of ND filters, a polarizer, my remote control and the lenses I need for a particular shoot: My Tamron 150-600 and Sigma 105mm macro lens when I shoot in the zoo or my Nikkor 18-135 and Nikkor AF 35mm f/1.8 when I shoot architecture or people on the streets.Feedback
Slow down. Think before you shoot. If possible, check the composition in live view. Go for soft light. Slow down.
