Location
My local zoo, the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, South Carolina. It is home to more than 2,000 magnificent and fascinating animals and one of the nation's most beautiful and inspiring botanical gardens.Time
I captured this image in the afternoon, when the animals began to wake up from their mid-day nap.Lighting
Because there was too much harsh light, I decided to stick around and wait for a cloud to give the scene a softer quality and thus, created a nice contrast on the bird's feathers.Equipment
This picture was taken on a Nikon Coolpix L840. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
I very much like the bright pink color and outstanding beauty of flamingos and I wanted to capture an image in which a flamingo looked shy and secretive all while displaying the most visually appealing characteristic it has. To remind us that there is more than meets the eye.Editing
Yes, I decided to crop the image to where my subject's head would be within the confinements of the rule of thirds. I brought up the contrast a little and gave it a vibrance boost by adjusting the levels and saturation to polish up and balance the image to its full potential. In my camera bag
A DSLR/point and shoot camera, extra batteries, more than one SD card, lens cleaner and my favorite snacks of course!Feedback
Put yourself in your subject's head, even if it isn't another human. Be your subject and think about how you would want the world to see you rather than what they think they see.
