While trapped inside babysitting in Long Beach, NY. Those poor kids and I never had good enough weather to go outside. This particular day was very stormy.
Time
It was early afternoon, and the thunder was getting louder and closer. Sirens soon followed, so I took a peek outside.
Lighting
I loved the way my hand was silhouetted by letting in even a little bit of light, like I did. It gave it this curious, yet eerie feel.
Equipment
I didn't have my camera on me this day, so this photo was actually taken with my phone (Galaxy S5) and a steady hand.
Inspiration
I am completely in love with rain. The sound, the smell, the look, everything. I am always taking pictures of raindrops and often peek through my windows just like this to watch it come down. On this day I kind of stepped out of myself and saw what I looked like. Being a Hitchcock fan, I was immediately reminded of Rear Window. Those two things combined were what inspired me to not only take a picture of the rain, but my interaction and relationship to it.
Editing
I took this photo in color, so I processed it in black and white. I also upped the contrast and shadows a bit to really accent the silhouette of my hand.
In my camera bag
The only thing I absolutely always have with me is my phone. On days when I know I have the opportunity and time to devote to my photography, I'll bring along my Sony a6000.
Feedback
Remain in the moment. Don't get caught up in trying to take a perfect picture. When something moves you, capture it in a way that reflects that and we, as the audience, will feel it too.
