Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Alicante, Spain. The sea front promenade.

Time

I have been shooting this promenade several times during many years. This photo was on a slightly overcast day in the afternoon last year.

Lighting

I thnink you can try any type of natural lightning, since this is a flat surface with no shadows. Also select an area without shading trees/palms.

Equipment

I used a Canon EOS 5D mk II with a Canon EF 100-400mm, set for 104 mm.

Inspiration

This promenade is blue in original and really gives you a three-dimensional experience. I have been taking the photo at street level, but also from an elevation like in the current photo.

Editing

I used quite standard Lightroom and Photoshop procedure to obtain the monochrome version with proper contrasting to really give the impression of a 3-dimensional structure, which is basically flat.

In my camera bag

I usually have a normal zoom lens (Tamron 24-70 mm) attached to my Canon Eos 5D MkII when I soot in the city. I shoot a lot of macro photos and then I use Canon EOS 5DsR and a Canon EF 100 macro lens. If I have to I bring a tripod I do that, but I prefer handheld. Therefore for macro photo I use a ring flash if necessary.

Feedback

To take this,or similar, photo you need to find a proper elevation. I this case I used a walking bridge some 3 meters above. You also have to patient and wait until it´s empty; not easy when people walk on the promenade day and night.
