Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in downtown Toronto near Toronto's New City Hall.

Time

I work in in an office and I like to go for a walk at lunch with my camera. I'm always looking for something that is a little out of the ordinary. This photo was taken around 1:00 p.m.

Lighting

The day was bright but not overly sunny.

Equipment

This was shot on a Nikon D3200 with a Nikkor 55-300mm 4.6-5.6 telephoto lens. No other special equipment was used.

Inspiration

This particular seagull caught my attention because he was extremely aggressive towards the other seagulls. He was loud and forceful in a way that you do not usually see - or at least that I had not seen in the past. The bright red colour in his beak and the intense clear shot of his eye called out.

Editing

I cropped the picture to focus on the front part of the seagull's body and head.

In my camera bag

I travel light. I have my regular 18-55mm lens together my 55-300mm telephoto lens. I always carry a spare battery.

Feedback

Photographing seagulls is easy at lunchtime in downtown urban areas because they are frequently looking for food treats left behind by people who are eating their lunch.
