This pic was taken close to my house in Montagu, South Africa.Time
It was in the morning, just as the sun was peeping over the mountain that surrounds our house.Lighting
I normally head out at the crack of dawn to get the most exotic lighting, or sunsets. I love the golden hour. But this was taken at a reasonable time of the day, where the sun helped lighten the features.Equipment
I used a standard Nikon D3000. No extra lens, tripod or flash. Lying on my tummy in front of the kitten gave me the best angle.Inspiration
Our new kitten, Scooter, was always getting into poses one just needed to capture. Being an active cat it normally takes a lot of effort to get a few decent pics, but in this case he was relatively still and I managed to get a nice shot. My focal length was 55mm.Editing
No post-processing except slightly blurring out the very furthest edges around the pic. It was probably not really necessary as the correct parts were in focus already. In my camera bag
I don't own any camera and all my pics are taken with a cell phone. Now using a Samsung S4, I carry it with me just for taking pics (as my old Blackberry's picture quality is not great). I also carry a small clip-on that helps me take macro shots.Feedback
Always be ready. The best shots are often not what I planned, went out and took, but what happened or appeared when I least expected it. Thank goodness for digital, one can take tons of pics - DO that and give yourself plenty of choice regarding angles, focus and lighting. And enjoy it!
