You have captured every bit of this scene, the light, the shadows, the colours, the textures, the atmosphire and emotions, even the way the rays come in you can really feel what its like to stand there

This image was taken in Upper Antelope Canyon, near Page Arizona during a photographers tour of the slot canyon in April of 2015.Time
This image was taken at 10:20 in the morning on April 7th 2015.Lighting
The canyons are generally dark enough to require longer exposures than hand held will allow. The shot was taken using auto white balance however the advise of the local Navajo guide was to switch to cloudy setting. This was done in post processing giving me the best results possible. Camera setting was ISO 800 1/4 s at F16Equipment
Image was shot using a Canon 5D Mark lll, c/w 24-205mm IS USM lens at 24 mm,. Camera mounted on a Manfroto 190 carbon fibre tripod without flash.Inspiration
Antelope canyon is well known as an iconic site for unique photos not available in too many places world wide. While we were on a 3 week Utah canyons trip we put the photo tour of the canyons on our must do list. The canyons surrounding Page Arizona are one of natures majestic creations showing the power of erosion by water in the deserts of Arizona. Fabulous tour. A must for any photographers bucket list.Editing
Processed raw image in Photoshop Raw to change from the auto white balance the camera set at 4249K to Cloudy at 6500K. Increased shadow lighting and increased exposure to lighten the darker areas in the shot. Cropped image. In my camera bag

I was able to get on a photo tour of both Rattlesnake Slot Canyon and Upper Antelope Canyon. This tour was 3.5 hours with one hour in Rattlesnake Canyon, 1.5 hours in Upper Antelope and then a half hour travelling each way. The guide was able to ensure we were set up in the right locations for shafts of light which come in only at certain times of the day, and hold back crowds of other visitors from spoiling our shots. It was crowded with 12 photographers lined up with tripods in the small cramped spaces. If you have a small footprint tripod bring it along. A wide angle zoom lens is recommended for the close quarters that you will be shooting in. Make sure you use a UV filter to protect your lens and bring a bulb blower to clean the sand from your lens. A good rain cover to protect your camera and lens from the dust will save your camera a trip to the shop for cleaning. Changing lenses in the slot canyons is definitely a no-no. You will get a lot of sand blowing around whether from the guide throwing it into the light beam or just the wind at the top of the canyon. If not shooting RAW, set your WB to cloudy to get the most vibrant colors out of the sandstone.
