This is Hairball... my attack cat. She sits in the window all day and stares at the finches and cardinals that line my tree. This is by far her favorite thing to do. The first is catnip, of course. This was taken in at my house... and I can get this same shot 20 times a day.. she sits so still, like a statue.Time
This was taken in the early evening. I took about 10 of these photos until she finally gave me the "look". Stop it or I am leaving look. So I gave it a rest.Lighting
About lighting, as I said, this was early evening so the sun was just setting over the mountain... but I could still catch just a glimpse of light in her eyes. And that's all I needed for this photo.Equipment
This particular photo was taken with my Galaxy phone. But normally I use a Canon Ti 5. As far as flash, I rarely use.. I adjust shutter speed and iso to grasp the photos I want and like.Inspiration
She has been in my life for 11 years now and this old girl will always be my favorite subject.Editing
I do very, very little editing to my shots... I might change them from color to black and white, or tweak a little of the contrast... but for the most part, I enjoy the photo presented being the actual photo I took.In my camera bag
Canon Ti 5, 75mm, 300mm, 500mm, extra batteries and a tripod... bare necessities.Feedback
My advice is take thousands of photos... thousands... play with them, change the iso, shutter speed, change the filter, change the f stop, try manual mode.... the more you play with your personal camera, the better understanding you will have of it. If its blurry, shoot it again, tweek it... there is no better feeling than catching that moment that you meant to catch. You can read a hundred books and watch dozens of tutorials... but until you have that camera in your hands.... the words are meaningless. Play - photography is meant to be fun... so pick it up and play...
