Location
This was taken at Villa Malla at Filtvet in Southern Norway. The little lighthouse is called Filtvet Fyr (fyr meaning lighthouse). It is on The approach to the smallest part of Oslofjord. All the cruise boats and ferries have to pass through here on there way to the city.Time
This was shot in the golden hour in the evening. as you can see, it is a long exposure shot and edited to bring out the messy sky that was lurking around.Lighting
There was some wind, but little drama in the light and the clouds, therefore I had to work with contrasts, which helped create the almost sketch like effectEquipment
I shot this with my Canon 70D on a tripod, Manfrotto ballhead, with a Tamron 10-24 lense. 30sec at f8.0, 10stop ND filter from B+W.Inspiration
I have shot this location before, but the conditions change constantly. I was hoping for impressive light down on the fjord, but not all trips give you the perfect conditions. Therefore, I just worked with what was there. It is a great little spot.Editing
The sky is developed separately from the rest. As I mentioned I used a lot of contrast in the sky to develop this sketchy look. The land part has less contrast. I used photoshop and Nik collection. In my camera bag
I only own 3 lenses and my Canon 70D. I do however have a number of ND filters; two graduated square 0.6 and 0.9 filters and two circular ND, a 6 and a 10 stop. I did have a few more, but I had an accident, slipped and fell into the fjord. I toppled my camera, which was on my tripod and smashed my circular polariser and a couple of grads, which I have replaced, but not the polariser. 77mm if anyone is feeling generous ;)Feedback
I can't say that this shot was planned, as the weather was not as expected. My advice is, that a good location is a good location and just work with the conditions given. A moody photo will appeal to many. It's not just the brilliant sunsets!
