Location
This shot was taken inside the Dambulla cave temple, Dambulla, Sri lanka. There is a small and extremely peaceful lotus pond inside the premises and these beautiful lilies were in full bloom.Time
It was probably around half past three in the afternoon, not the ideal time for a great light. But most of the times I purely shoot instinctively than waiting for the technicalities to be conducive - I might just miss the moment, that's my fear.Lighting
Nothing special about the light - just had to find a spot to make the most of what was available.Equipment
Shot with a Nikon D80 - and a 18-135 lens. No tripod or flash was used.Inspiration
As I mentioned earlier, the small pond looked serene and the quietness of the place was very calming. The sound of the light breeze ruffling the leaves and the chirping of the birds made a perfect scenario where time is slowed down. I wanted to capture the essence of this moment of tranquility and these lilies somehow reflected the softness and the hush. Multiple textures made it look dreamy and the diffused light enhanced the pastel hues.Editing
Nothing much except the basic - gamma, saturation and contrast. Square cropped the shot to make it tighter, because there were too many leaves in the original frame and the two lilies were getting lost.In my camera bag
Always have my trusted Nikkor 35mm, 10-20mm, and a sigma 50-300mm. Besides the Nikon bodies I also have my favorite Pentax spotmatic with its killer super takumar 50mm lens for when I want to shoot in films. It's still a beast and a works perfectly. Switching between the analog and digital gives me a sense of balance of ever evolving cutting edge technology and the pure joy and romanticism of the film era.Feedback
Just listen to your innermost feeling - for something similar or anything that one wants to capture. There's always a story in Nature, find the story cause no photo editing software in the World would be able to incorporate that.
