Location
This photo was taken from the roof top of my working place in Makati City - Manila, Philippines. It's a place that already long time I want to shoot.Time
This shot was taken at 9.00PM and it's a good time since there wasn't too much traffic on street.Lighting
Many people said that sunrise and sunset is the best time to take a cityscape. The best time for me to take cityscape is on week days when the road is busy and buildings lit up with light.Equipment
This shot was taken with my humble small Fujifilm X-M1 and XF 10-24mm lens, supported by a small compact tripod.Inspiration
It's been a long time I want to take photo from this vantage point but due to it's forbidden for people to get to the top of the building, it's really hard to get access to it. When before I have a camera, I have been there and I know the city view is beautiful since my cousin lived at this roof top.Editing
I used 3 software to process this shot. First, I did the standard enhancement in Lightroom such as dragging a little temperature to cold, adjustement on highlight and shadow, add clarity and contrast then converted to JPG. Second I transfer to Photoshop to add some enhancement to the light glow and last one is Nik Color Efex Pro to tweak the color. In my camera bag
I like to travel and usually I bring light-weight equipment in my bag. Fujifilm X-M1 with XF10-24mm for sure as my main gear, XF 60mm macro lens, shutter release remote, CPL and 10 stops ND filter, lightweight small tripod, flexible table tripod, 2 spare batteries, spare memory card, cleaning kit and lately I add a crystal ball in order to take creative photo.Feedback
Here are my advices from what I experienced and surely I need to improve my self: 1. Higher place for sure is better to take a cityscape but sometimes it's really hard to get access. 2. Search for the road as leading line, busy intersection and skyscrapers as your main composition. 3. Take a bracketing shots. We need to recover the blown out highlight or too dark shadows area. 4. Wide Angle lens is a must. Zoom lens is my choice since it's more versatile to use. 5. Take several shots with different angle or views and choose the best later after you transfer it all to your laptop 6. Always bring 2 kind of tripod. One is the standard and the other one is flexible table tripod. There are places we cannot use standard tripod but can tangle the flexible table tripod on a fence or wall. 7. Always bring your shutter release remote, sometimes we need more that 30 seconds. 8. Check your memory card if it's inside your camera. I know it sound dumb but it's crucial. 9. Don't take a cityscape (business district) on weekend or holiday since mostly building will have not light and street looks like creepy and no life.
