Armed with only a tripod and a timer, without any assist, this was hard. But, it's worth it. :'D

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in the courtyard at home.

Time

It was late afternoon, so the sunlight was not too harsh.

Lighting

Since I do not have an external flash, I could only rely on natural light. The spot in the courtyard has the best lighting.

Equipment

The photo was shot on a Canon EOS 550D with the kit lens, no flash, no assist. Only a tripod, timer, a bucket full of water, a tennis ball, and 2 plastic box covers as the background.

Inspiration

I was looking for interesting photography experiments to try out online, and I stumbled across a photo by someone spinning a wet tennis ball. I thought it looked so cool and I just tried it out.

Editing

Since the main focus of the photo is the ball and the water droplets, I just have to crop the photo and adjust the contrast and exposure to make them stand out more.

In my camera bag

Back then only a Canon EOS 550D and the kit lens, I usually focus more on the setup of the subject that I am going to shoot rather than the equipment.

Feedback

Since this is what you call a photography experiment, some things are unpredictable, you simply have to keep on trying in order to get the best shot. It took me hundreds of shots to get this one. You need to get the angle and the force of spinning just right. My advice: Have patience, and keep on spinning that wet tennis ball.
