Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken just north of Skibotn, Norway looking west over the fjord.

Time

The sun sets in Feb. around 3p.m. in Tromso. This photo was taken at about 7p.m.

Lighting

The lights acrost the fjord (low pressure sodium lights) gave the surrounding mountains and low clouds a very surreal orange glow.

Equipment

The camera used is a Canon 6D with a Rokinon 14mm F2.8 lens. I use a MeFoto Globetrotter tripod and a manual bulb.

Inspiration

This was a trip just to hunt the aurora. We've never seen it other than pics and movies and wanted to see it for ourselves.

Editing

Post processing was done entirely through Lightroom. Slight adjustments to whitebalance , contrast and clarity. The 6D has a fantastic full frame sensor for shooting low light with very little noise.

In my camera bag

I keep it simple; 2 extra batteries, about a dozen SD chips, the 14mm Rokinon and a 24-105 F/4 canon lens, manual bulb and my tripod.

Feedback

You have to experiment with ISO, exposure times, and take as many pics as possible. Above all else don't forget to get your eye out of the camera and ACTUALLY ENJOY THE MOMENT.
