Location
This was taken on my trip to the North of Finland, Lapland - near the fell Ylläs in Kolari. The road is called "The Scenic Road" for a reason.Time
I took the shot while driving back to our cabin after shooting some northern lights just after midnight.Lighting
The northern lights had already faded away, but the road looked great when the moon was just rising and illuminating the snowy trees. Decided to wait for some passing by cars to get capture some light trails.Equipment
This was shot with Canon EOS 6D and a Sigma 20 mm f/1.4 Art lens - and of course a tripod as I used 30 s exposure for the light trails.Inspiration
I just love the snowy winter wonderland and think it's even more magical during the night time. I capture light trails quite often so I figured this was the perfect spot to capture those!Editing
I combined two exposures from the same spot as I used f/1.4 & 15 sec exposure for the sky and the overall scenery and f/11 & 30 sec for the passing by car. First I optimized both shots in Lightroom and the combined them in Photoshop.In my camera bag
When doing night photography, I usually carry my Canon 6D and a Samyang 14 mm f/2.8 and Sigma 20 mm f/1.4 lenses. As I'm fond of shooting timelapses, I have also an intervalometer as well as a Syrp Genie Mini for adding panning to the shots. In the winter time I also carry some hand warmer pads to keep the lenses from freezing.Feedback
Best advice to go out and experiment and figure out the optimum settings for capturing the scene you have in your mind. And of course be prepared to spend some time in post processing with Lightroom and Photoshop.
