Behind The Lens

Location
The image was taken at Normanton church museum Oakham which is situated on the south-shore of Rutland Water. The church is often used for weddings, other events including of course, lots of people who just want to visit this beautiful location.
Time
I had never been to Rutland water before but had heard much about this beautiful location. I visited the location with my husband around 12.00 noon. We took a pleasant stroll on the footpaths around the reservoir until we found this beautiful church. Immediately, I knew I wanted a image of this beautiful church.
Lighting
In my minds eye I wanted the image to reflect a tranquil, peaceful place by reflecting through the church steeple and catch the shadows through the water. It was a sunny day, so I used filters to cut out some of the light.
Equipment
Used a Lee Big Stopper and a Lee soft grad 0.9 filter on a Canon EOS 5D Mark III using an Aperture: f/8 at ISO: 100. Shutter Speed of 13/1and a Focal Length of 27/1
Inspiration
I love sunsets and landscapes. I was inspired to take this image by the sheer beauty of the churches tranquil setting with such a beautiful coloured sunset that day. The whole setting was so harmonious that it left me feeling happy and relaxed.
Editing
I used Light room for highlighting and contrast
In my camera bag
This really depends on the location and what I want to photo, but generally it will be using a Canon EOS 70D for general images or for full frame landscape it will be the Canon EOS 5D Mark III. I have found though the 5D images are much sharper. I always carry a range of Lee Filters. I try to limit the equipment as much as possible as I'm not getting any younger and the bag can get heavy overtime especially if its got a good substantial tripod hanging from it
Feedback
Patience is a virtue, Be prepared, to carry a tripod and camera for some distance. I often I go to find a perfect location without success. Research the location before you visit, this helps to prepare your traveling time and saves time looking for exact locations. On the safety side, make sure someone knows where you are going, make sure you have plenty to drink and something to eat. I often go to take landscape images at high peak, where a beautiful day and sun set can turn to a cold windy night, so make sure you carry warmer clothes and a torch to see where you are going in the dark..
