Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken at the Garfield Conservatory on Chicago's West Side. There is a man-made pond in the middle of the building where sculpture flowers and Koi fish can be found. The fish have gotten used to attendees feeding them and they come toward you while looking for a meal. Kind of reminds me of the line, "Feed me Seymour, feed me good!" from the movie Little Shop of Horrors. This photo was featured at the Black Creativity juried exhibit in Chicago, IL.Time
It is mid-day, bright sunshine.Lighting
The lighting is all natural. The building roof and walls are constructed mostly of glass. The reflections on the water are from the sky. No flash was used.Equipment
The Cannon 60D camera with the Cannon Zoom EF-S 18-135mm lens. All camera functions were set to manual, including focus.Inspiration
I thought that it was interesting that this fish wanted to engage with me, or would be that trusting, whatever the reason.Editing
No. This photo is camera raw.In my camera bag
A flash attachment, Zoom microphone for video applications, a couple of specialty lenses, battery charger, extra batteries, etc.Feedback
Just go with the flow. I never expected to find fish when I was planning to shoot exotic plants that day. It was a nice surprise. Be ready for anything. The moment will be gone before you know it.
