Dream Image - Nilgai Male - Blue Cow
Nil - Blue and Gai - Cow
This antelope is a mixture of Horse+Cow+Deer in appearance. One can get easily confused for an Horse when seen from behind or side ways and his face is just like a cow. A subadult Female can look like a Sambhar deer if not observed properly.
This is one of the creature I always dreamt of capturing through my lens. Finally, prayers answered in Tadoba Tiger Reserve, Maharashtra.
Previous day before this shot, I had a glimpse of a Female Nilgai crossing our Safari Jeep. I could not believe my luck and was happy that I could manage to get a documentary shot followed by a four horned antelope.
The next day morning Safari had something for us, as soon as we entered the forest This Male was crossing the road. A very shy animal, quickly ran into the grasslands looking at our safari. We stopped our jeep in a good distance from this male so that he can feel comfortable and not threatened.
We got a good view of this 6.5 foot (Approx) fully grown male and we were short of words to appreciate this amazing animal. Those 5 minutes spent with him was truly a blessing and he made sure that I became his fan for life.
