A remarkable photograph. The anger and severity of the lightening contrasting against the cheerfulness and colourful city lights, I love the emotions this conveys!!

Location
This photo was taken in Manila. I was living there for 1 year and this was my view from the 29th floor of the Pacific Plaza Tower looking towards Makati. I used to watch the thunder storms roll past each evening. I set my camera up to try and capture some of the lighting strikes.Time
This image was taken about 8pm at nightLighting
This image was taken through my apartment window, I had to make sure that all inside lights were switched off so not to create any reflections in the windows. I even turned the TV off and closed all doors. The darker my apartment was the better results I got.Equipment
This image was taken with a Canon 5D3 on a tripod with a Canon 24-105 F4 lens . I used a long exposure to try and capture the lightning. I had set my camera up to take a time lapse to give me the best chance of capturing the lightning i.e my camera would take 1 image for about 25 secs then wait 1 sec until it took the next image for 25 sec. I used to set the camera up to do this for a few hours while the lightning storm pass by.Inspiration
When I first saw the lightning from my apartment window I thought it would be interesting to see if I could photograph it. I had never photographed lightning before and I experimented with different settings and ways to try and give me the best chance to photograph lightning. I did not have a lightning trigger.Editing
This image has a little post processing in lightroom CC. I increased some clarity, contrast and exposure in the clouds and lightning. Over the city I have reduced the highlights. In my camera bag
I mainly photograph wildlife so I have some long lens e.g. 400mm F2.8 as well as Macro images. I have a few Macro lens Canon 100 f2.8, Canon MPE 65 and a wide angle lens for something different.Feedback
I had great fun photographing lightning and I got hooked on photographing it. When photographing lightning make sure you are in a safe location and are not in any danger from the lightning or getting your camera wet in any rain. For me this was easy as I was in doors.
