Behind The Lens

Location

It was just after feeding time at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center in Portage, Alaska, just about an hours drive Southeast of Anchorage.

Time

The bears weren't out earlier in the day, so we circled around later in afternoon to early evening just after feeding time.

Lighting

The afternoon sun in late May in Alaska was perfect for lighting. No special equipment was used for lighting.

Equipment

I was using a 75-300 zoom lens with f 4-5.6 on a Canon Eos Rebel T3. I used the fence to steady my hand. No special settings. I clicked a lot!

Inspiration

How many people get to see a bear in nature swimming and frolicking in the water and be that close?! It was so awesome. At one point they were throwing a bone in the water and diving after it. It was amazing to see!

Editing

Simple correction of contrast and brightness levels to bring out the details- post processing

In my camera bag

My handy Canon EOS Rebel T3 and a standard lens to 55mm as well as my 75-300 zoom lens. A lens cloth, aUV filter and a little tripod.

Feedback

I'm no professional, but love a good shot. I take lots of shots, look at camera after the first few to make sure there's no smudges on lens, that the cap is off, etc...and then just get lots of shots without looking at each one til you're done shooting.
