Location
This shot was taken while on vacation in Myrtle Beach. It happened to be the 1st photo taken of over 800 on the trip.Time
We had just arrived at the house we rented. The people staying in the house next door stopped over to say hello. I was sitting by the pool in the afternoon after just having unpacked.Lighting
The photo was taken under natural lighting and converted to greyscale afterwards.Equipment
This was shot using a Canon 7D and a Tamron AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC LD Aspherical (IF) MACRO lens. While the lens is not used for professional photography, I use it as a kick-around lens for snapshots since it has a wide range.Inspiration
According to my family, I always take too many pictures, but I like to capture all aspects of my surroundings. I also have a rule, never delete a photo, no matter how bad. You never know if you may be able to use it or part of it.Editing
When I saw this photo, I felt it would present better in black and white. In my camera bag
When on vacation and not looking to specifically work on photography, I carry only my camera and lens. I refer to this as "snapshots" and the result is "pics" or "pictures". This as compared to working on photography with the result being called "photographs." When working on photography, I usually carry flashes, macro lens, portrait lens, telephoto lens as well as assorted remote shutter release, tripods and a little of this and that.Feedback
Always pay attention to angle. Most people take the shot from straight on. Consider shooting from above or below. This photo was taken looking up at the subject. Also, for black and white photos, contrast is king. This photo worked well in black and white because of the number lines in his face, grey beard against tanned skin. The hat helped frame the face as the focal point.
