Location
I took this photo of the Samuel Beckett Bridge at Sir Rogersons Quay, on the southern bank of the Liffey river in Dublin. It's probably one of the most famous locations for taking photographs of this iconic Irish bridge.Time
I've taking photographs of this bridge since I moved to Ireland more than two years ago. I've been coming to the same place at different hours of the day and at under different weather conditions, looking for the perfect photograph. For this one, I went at sunset and I waited until the blue hour, when the deep blue light of the sky was well-balanced with the colour of the lights of the bridge. It is my favorite hour to photograph this area in Dublin.Lighting
I've been coming back to this spot a lot of times during the last year, looking for the perfect photograph of this bridge, specially at sunset, as the sun always sets behind the bridge and at the blue hour the sky color is always more beautiful in this direction. I've taking photographs with and without clouds, mist, fog... This one was a very special one, as the sky was incredibly clean (very weird in Dublin) when the blue hour started.Equipment
I used a Canon EOS 1200D with my wide angle lens, a Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6, and hama 73 tripod.Inspiration
I love the Samuel Beckett bridge in Dublin. The harp shape, the colors at night, the reflections on the river, the tides. I've been coming to the same place for almost two years and everyday the place looks different. I think this is why I keep coming back again and again, looking for the perfect combination of elements to make the perfect photograph.Editing
Simple edit in Lightroom, nothing to aggressive. I only made small changes in white balance to enhance and balance correctly the colors of the sky and the bridge. In my camera bag
My camera, a beginner SLR Canon EOS 1200D. 4 lenses: the kit lens (18-55mm), a telephoto lens (55-250mm), a prime lens (50mm 1.8) and a wide angle (10-18mm), all from Canon. I love taking long exposure shots, so I always carry a ND1024 and a circular ND8. I always carry a polarize filter too. Tripod and more Neutral density filters, depending on the location and the object I want to photograph each time. Always, microfiber clothes, air blower and cleaning pen to keep my gear clean and battery and charger.Feedback
In my opinion, the best time to photograph this iconic landmark is in spring or autumn, when the sun sets almost in the same direction as the river and the colors of the sky are more beautiful at the blue hour. Check the tide forecast to be sure that the water is at its higher level to have better reflections. And wait for calm days without wind to have perfect reflections on the water.
